Winnellie Group is a proudly local, family owned business, established by Richard Nicholson in Darwin in July, 1983. Winnellie Hydraulics has built its reputation from the ground up as ‘the go-to’ specialist hydraulic company, in the Northern Territory.
The company remains in the family with Max Nicholson (Richard’s son) now serving as General Manager with a focus on maintaining the companies first class service levels and strong reputation in the industry. We are passionate about our business with innovation and continuous improvement at the forefront of our mission statement for large resources industries & companies across both Darwin and Perth.
Originally specialising in the service of hydraulic components in the transport, commercial fishing and earth moving industries Winnellie Hydraulics grew with the rest of the Territory to develop a name for itself amongst the larger resource industries as they began to expand their presence around the Northern Territory.
To this day, we have retained these working relationships providing specialist hydraulic and pneumatic advice, sales and service and have continued to grow with the ever-changing demands and needs of our customers.
Our team prides itself on delivering a level of industry knowledge, customer service and after sales/service support that is unrivalled in the Northern Territory. We consider open communication between our team and our customer’s the key to our successful business and encourage honesty within this process to ensure we retain this level of service.
We understand that our customers need somebody to take ownership of their problems and value our commitment to not only standing by and supporting what we sell with service capability but also sourcing, supplying and maintaining equipment outside our usual scope as well. Within this process there’s often several hands that form the critical chain of supply particularly when dealing with inter-state freight which we ultimately take responsibility for allowing our customers to concentrate on what they need to. It’s, for this reason, we have just released ‘On-site Tool Audits’, increased our hire fleet to include Enerpac and RAD bolting equipment and also calibration all backed up with the Winnellie Hydraulics service we’ve been providing for 30 years.
As Darwin transforms into a dominant resource hub for Northern Australia with the construction of the INPEX Ichthy’s project, Shell Prelude and the expanding and emerging mineral extraction projects around the Top End we continue to strengthen and build on our experience, resources and partnerships to further serve these industries well into the future.

Our Valve training packages are run by our Valve and Process Manager Iain Garvin. With a passion to share his 30+ years technical experience across a wide range of applications Iain has developed basic training courses for entry level students explaining valve types and their basic functions, right through to complex severe service valve applications. All courses include practical examples from Iain’s experience and relevant case studies ensuring you are gain the maximum benefit. There is also time for a QA session at the end of each session.
