At Winnellie Valve and Process, we supply quality Actuators in a range of design types to suit all applications. If you’re looking to buy Actuators in Australia, you need look no further than our extensive product range. If you’re unsure about which type of Actuator you need for your application, or would simply like more information and guidance, Winnellie Valve and Process are only too happy to chat through your options with you.
An Actuator is a mechanical device that uses a power source to operate a valve in industrial applications. It “actuates” (moves) a valve to an open or closed position. Actuators reduce the requirement for operators to go to each valve and operate them manually. Instead, they can be operated from a control room or other remote location.
Actuators require gas (normally air), electricity or hydraulic fluid to drive the actuator from the open to closed position, visa versa or modulate the actuator based on a given set point.
There are four common types of actuators used in industrial applications:
are powered by pressurised liquids and are fast-acting and highly accurate within hydraulic systems.
utilise air pressure to move a valve into position and are one of the more widely used types of Actuators in process systems. They are cost-effective, long-lasting and simple to repair or maintain.
are powered by electricity to create motion. They are simple to install and are able to log system data, however they are slower than other types of Actuators and have a higher repair cost.
can be implemented to replace the need for complex and large hydraulic systems. They are able to remotely record diagnostics and data logs and are able to be set with custom open and closing times.

Actuators are used in a wide range of industries, commonly in oil and gas, petrochemical, waste water treatment plants, power plants, refineries, mining and nuclear processes, food factories, and pipelines.
It’s always best to have a qualified technician install your process equipment for industrial applications. However, if you want to be able to install an Actuator yourself, contact a valve expert to guide you through the process. Winnellie Valves and Process also provide valve training courses for all types of valve and process equipment.
To automate our range of quarter and multi turn valves, Winnellie Valve and Process can provide a full range of actuators and accessories to suit your needs.
Whether it is a specific brand such as Rotork, Bettis, SMC or Norgren you are looking for or a simple solution we can mount the actuator to the valve and assemble all parts as a package or simply provide the components, whichever suits.
All electrical components are fully certified by either IEC or ATEX to suit specific hazardous applications as required.
